49 Bankside
49 Bankside, a house with an unbelievable history, wrapping its arm over London’s narrowest street, Cardinal Cap Alley (shimmy through to the heavenly hidden garden on Saturdays). The fake plaque tells the myth of Wren living here as he oversaw the building of St Paul’s cathedral, which saved the house from demolition. Catherine of Aragon shored up here before she shacked up with Henry VIII. Gillian Tyndall maps the life of 49 and its infamous occupants in her book ‘The House By The Thames’.
