Shakespeare’s Globe
Meet the Rose’s younger sister. Nicknamed the big wooden ‘O’, this new reconstruction is a time portal into how this medieval theatre survived plague, fire (in Henry VIII’s time) and political skullduggery to rise like a phoenix thanks to Sam Wannamaker’s tenacity. Companies would die on a sword to perform here and the repertory is eclectic as Bankside itself. You can still see the remains of the old Globe round the corner.
