Museum of the Moon

Marvel at the Moon as it lands at Southwark Cathedral this October.

Following the success of Gaia in Southwark Cathedral’s nave last autumn, artist Luke Jerram returns to Southwark this October with his incredible Museum of the Moon artwork. Measuring seven metres in diameter, the replica of the moon features high resolution NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.

This awe-inspiring large-scale display features minute detail of the lunar surface using NASA imagery, and a surround sound composition by BAFTA-winning composer Dan Jones.

Love Your Arches Exhibition

Celebrating the architecture of the impressive Victorian viaduct that sweeps through Bankside and the people and businesses who call the arches home, this special amateur photography exhibition captures new angles and perspectives of the Low Line. Under themes of architecture, hidden gems and humans of Bankside, amateur photographers were asked to submit images as part of a competition for Arch Day in July , a yearly celebration led by The Arch Company.

For one day only, visitors can see all the competition entries including the winning entry within Arch 23 on Southwark Street – an exciting new arts and culture space next to Flat Iron Square bar.

Love Your Arches is a free exhibition and will be open for one day only on 30 September from 13:00 – 18:00

LDF Talk: Foldit – inventing a new type of font

Learn a basic intro of Color Font formats, and hear Sophia share her experiences working on Foldit, one of the first fonts in the newest COLRv1 format. It’s a color font, it’s a variable font, and it has gradients which are also variable. This is a project which made the creation of variable gradient fonts accessible to everyday designers.

In this talk you will find out what it was like to work on a new font format (the trenches). After a short break, it is then followed by a demo of the workflow for creating your own variable-gradient color font (the process we developed for you). Foldit is now available on Google Fonts.

FUJI: A OPERA at Africa Centre

The Africa Centre in London will present FUJI: A Opera, a multi-dimensional exhibition which tells the story of the fuji music genre – one of the most important in Nigeria’s history and without whom the Afrobeats artists who top the charts today (such as Burna Boy and Wizkid) would not be selling out stadiums across the world.

FUJI: A Opera will include never seen before archive footage and artefacts, explore the belligerent past of fuji music, highlight its founding footprints, and celebrate its rich subculture from the early 1960s to the present day.

Borough Market Explorers

Desperate for something to keep your kids informed and entertained? We have a good option for you, and one that carries the additional benefit of potentially leading to a half-decent lunch.

The Market Explorers series is designed to help primary school children discover more about the produce sold in Borough Market. Each booklet looks at a specific ingredient, tracing it from field to fork, and includes several delicious child-friendly recipes to prepare at home. The series starts with a quick set of tips for cooking safely with children. The booklets have been devised in collaboration with children’s cooking authors and TV consultants Sally Brown and Kate Morris – the duo behind CBeebies’ i can cook and My World Kitchen.

This is an ongoing event.
