Defenders of the Faith | A Talk by Catherine Pepinster

During the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the Christian Church will take centre stage once again, as the established religion in England. But why does the Church have such prominence in state affairs, and should it keep this privileged position in 21st Century, multi-faith Britain? Join journalist, author, media commentator and broadcaster Catherine Pepinster to explore the powerful link between religion and the British monarchy from its earliest times, through to the Reformation, the Civil War, and the reconfigured wholesome family monarchy of Victoria and her successors, down to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II — and into the future as the new Defender of the Faith is crowned.

Celebratory Evensong and Launch of God Save the King

Join us at Southwark Cathedral for this special Service of Celebration as we mark the Coronation of King Charles III.
Join us for a special service of Choral Evensong to celebrate of the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort. All are welcome to hear prayers and Bible readings specifically selected for this momentous national occasion, with music by the Choir of Southwark Cathedral.
The service will be followed by the launch of God Save the King – A Guide to the National Anthem published by Hodder Faith. The Very Reverend Andrew Nunn, Dean of Southwark will be in conversation with Classic FM’s Anne-Marie Minhall who provided the introduction to this wonderful publication, and local artist Rosie Brooks who brought it to life with her colourful illustrations.
Copies of God Save the King – A Guide to the National Anthem will be available to purchase and Anne-Marie and Rosie will be available to sign copies.
