Our re-imagined Frost Fair celebrates some of the traditional and not so traditional activities, food and drink of the time…
Join Mr Londoner, aka former museum director Antony Robbins, to discover the chaotic events that unfolded when the River froze and Londoners suddenly faced unexpectedly Artic conditions. A series of mini ice-ages between the 17th and 19th century made the Thames freeze, bringing river traffic – and people’s livelihoods – to a standstill.
Faced with few alternatives, the people of Bankside took to the ice with a uniquely creative approach to seizing opportunity from the chaos. Explore these unexpected climatic events and the surprising response to them in a one-hour free walking tour with Mr Londoner. Along the way we’ll discover dark corners and hidden gems as we uncover art, architecture and secret histories in one of the capital’s most surprising and vibrant neighbourhoods.
