Afrosymbology

Afrosymbology is an exhibition, installation and workshop by fashion artist Yéga; celebrating African textile craft and the symbols which adorn them. As part the exhibition, Yèga will present a new body of work inspired by the iconic Yoruba textile tradition known as Àdìre Eleko. Currently enjoying a renaissance in its popularity in Nigerian fashion; she explores the hand painted imagery that makes it so instantly recognisable and the stories these motifs tell. Alongside a short film, she will partner with The Art Academy London to host illustration workshops where the public can participate in creating meaningful symbols of their own. Our cloths, our stories…everyone is welcome!
