Low Line

Follow the path of the Low Line, the mighty Victorian viaduct meandering through Bankside, London Bridge and Bermondsey.

These wonders of engineering are home to a variety of people, activities and industry. The Low Line scheme is connecting areas, opening routes and bringing new uses to spaces in and around the railway arches. It encourages you to explore the history and character of Bankside’s side streets as you meander through the neighbourhood and uncover hidden hubs of entertainment, historic sites and green spaces.
Steered by a group of partners, in collaboration with local businesses and residents, Low Line initiatives are underway to:

• Create a green linear park to provide opportunities for local people to connect with nature and wildlife
• Unlock inaccessible spaces and improve connectivity along the viaduct to support walking, cycling and active living, encouraging exploration through the Bankside, London Bridge and Bermondsey neighbourhoods.
• Breathe new life into vacant and derelict arches and enable a variety of uses to support and grow economic activity, local jobs and skills.
• Increase environmental resilience along its length through innovative greening and sustainability projects that mitigate climate change.

The Low Line partners include three Southwark Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) – Better Bankside, Team London Bridge, Blue Bermondsey – supported by Southwark Council and The Arch Company. Integral to the success of the Low Line is engagement and collaboration with local communities.
