Street Artist – U.K.
- Artist: Jay aka Cbloxx from Nomad Clan
- Country of origin: UK, Yorkshire born and bred
- Mediums of choice: In Muralism freehand spray paint though I’m hoping to incorporate more brush work so I live longer, haha. Studio based I love oils the most.
- Style: Stylistically we have been described as having Baroque qualities such as an attention to figurative realism, light and colour pallets. Mythological scenes and portraits are core.
- Personal inspiration: Not to sound like a miserable sod but, a deep feeling of alienation and loneliness… also a desire to study, observe and dream up.
- Artistic inspiration: Street artists that made me realise this mural life was an option : Swoon, Futura, Dave Kinsey, Phlegm, Faith47, Insa, The London Police, Herakut, Miss Van, Lucy Mclaughlin, Etam Cru, Aryz, Conor Harrington, and Inkie.
Frost Fair inspiration: The Frost Fair story drew me into thoughts around the British public ability to come together and make the best of a bad situation. The two scenic paintings reflect the goings on of the Frost Fairs. In a surreal moment an elephant was paraded across the ice. I deliberately walked to work over the Thames each morning, imagining how absurd that must have looked! The third piece is something a little different and more personal. In my work, I have been exploring trans existence in ancient history and in this piece, I wanted to represent a gender non-conforming person. An important aspect of my own gender journey is looking for our existence within history. At the time of the Frost Fair, gender queer individuals were often found in the arts, in ‘freak’ and cabaret shows and were most commonly referred to as crossdressers.
